FLAWS OF TRADITIONAL MARKETING


Marketing is a self-descriptive word, which means to market things, i.e. to present your products to the customers or users. Earlier there was no internet and thus to educate someone about any product or services was very hard. Those were the days marketing techniques which involve lots of time and efforts, which we also refer to as Traditional Marketing these days.

Some of you might not very familiar with the concepts of Marketing and would be wondering about what is Traditional Marketing? Traditional Marketing is sub-way of Marketing which any company uses for a long period of time and which involves methods such as: Printing pamphlets, newspaper print ads, newsletters, radio marketing etc.

Back then, there were no other options for effective presentation, so the marketing techniques involved pamphlet publishing, poster and hoardings publishing and marketing advertisements through radio and television. Although we still continue to use Television Marketing these days, because of its wide reachability even to the remote users, with an increase in globalization and due to lack of greenery out there, we have to focus on saving paper and for that reason, traditional marketing is not a great approach to marketing these days.

The world is progressing and industries are growing faster, the compulsion is to reach a wide range of audience in order to educate them about the organization or the product. If we use the traditional marketing scheme here, we might not be able to attract a large number of a user, because in this era of technological advancements, everyone is busy with
smartphones, either on social media or checking updates, Also it becomes very hard to attract customers attention through pamphlets or posters/hoardings. The tactics have changed now, which are for good because they save time and resources involved in that.

Except for the above-mentioned reasons, traditional marketing still has many drawbacks, which cause major setbacks for the businesses. Let us now discuss them in detail :
Ø  Time Consumption: The tactics used in Traditional Marketing involves various resources as well as consumes extra time, it involves lots of printing and extra people to visit places in the city and paste those posters or hoardings and few other people to distribute pamphlets. The time invested in all this does not even have a certainty whether or not people will see these advertisements and/or read the pamphlets. That is the major reason why Traditional Marketing is simply not adequate for the current scenario.
Ø  Cost : Funds play an important role when we talk about small-paced companies or start-ups, and traditional marketing requires a lot of resources, due to which the investment cost increases, which is not affordable by many start-up companies. For them, traditional marketing ways are a big NO-NO. Also, it involves paying to the extra people working for pamphlet distribution. Printing and distribution cost is also involved.
Ø  Unreliable : Even if you publish the ads in the newspaper or you distribute the pamphlets, there is no way to get an update about how many people saw that and if we don’t know about the statistics, how can we know where we are lacking and where we need to work more in order to improve. This is the main reason why traditional marketing fails most of the time. Because it is a one-way marketing strategy and we cannot get any confirmation about people viewing the advertisement.
Ø  Slow Process : Due to the time involved in collecting resources and printing the hard copies and them distributing them, it becomes a very slow process, and even after everything is done perfectly there is no certainty of the advertisement getting people’s attention. For people to contact you, the advertisement should be effective and unique so that it gets maximum attention and is able to convert potential customers to buy the product. In the present situation, we any company goes with the traditional marketing strategies, they are investing a lot of their productive time and money.
Ø  Pricing Options : The pamphlets or the newspaper ads, does not have enough space to cover all the details so that the user could choose from them, due to the lack of these small but yet important details, the company fails in the market. The reason being that it lacks important details which are necessary for marketing purpose. These are the biggest limitations of the Traditional Marketing strategies.

These are some of the issues which most of the companies face which adapt Traditional Marketing tactics. Apart from these, there are many reasons for the failure of Traditional Marketing schemes and why they are inappropriate for businesses. Also, today’s generation is advancing in terms of software’s, technologies and awareness. People want to be updated about what is happening in the outside world and what are all the new updates arriving in the market. With such fast-paced time and advancements, It is not at all good to market products in the traditional ways, it won’t create a good strategic plan and with greater intake then the investment.

Due to these major reason’s and the need to improve the advertisement techniques, Digital Marketing or we can say Online Marketing techniques came into existence. There are more ways to market your product or your services when compared with the traditional marketing. The first and foremost advantage is to go online and attract people’s attention which is already online but is busy with some of the other social networking websites. Since nowadays people are constantly busy on their smartphones, it is easy to market products over there in order to grab their attention through advertisement ads, pop-up messages, ads in the YouTube videos etc. These techniques involve less time and guarantee sales by providing the statistics of the area of interest of buyer’s and helping provide effective solutions to  correct those tactics, which will assist in getting greater traffic or we can say customers to view our product and understand about them and finally convince them to buy the product or take those services.

It is easily accessible as well as understandable to people when compared with the traditional marketing ways.

Due to its quality of less investment and higher output, digital marketing is booming these days. It highly suitable for small businesses which lack in funds and need to cope up with the competition in the market with those limited about of funds only. That is the major reason why traditional techniques are not at all adapted by the small companies or the start-up companies

Thus it provides us with a large area to analyse and rethink our marketing and presentation schemes, helping us to improve our lacking points. This was the major drawback of traditional marketing where we had no idea of whether the people see the advertisement or not and whether it is able to convince the potential customers to visit the company for further information related to the product. Which was again time and money consuming.

Which is not all possible with the traditional marketing strategies, because they lack any user interaction and the work is totally offline.

It is not at all time consuming, hardly requires expertise and saves money, you can even pay online. Thus when we compare to the traditional marketing strategies, digital marketing has been very successful in getting potential customers and easily convincing them to buy the product.

With the traditional way of marketing it was hard to reach to users which were far away from us but with the digital marketing, this task has been made very easy. Now with the use of the internet, we can reach any person sitting in any remote part of this world, the internet has given so much power to the world and made marketing products or services so much fun and easy to do a task. The more people you reach the more customers will buy your product and they will forward the word to their colleagues and in this way marketing strategies go on.

There is no way through which we can analyse whether our strategies are working for the business or not and the ways in which we can correct those mistakes so as to improve the marketing ways and strategies.
